Prince Harry video nasty that will spark outrage

ROYAL rebel Prince Harry today stands accused of racism in a bombshell home video as he swaggers in front of his army comrades.

The soldier prince pours shame on the Royal Family as he calls an Asian squaddie "our little Paki friend" and tells another officer cadet jokingly wearing a camouflage veil off duty: "F*** me, you look like a raghead"-an offensive term for an Arab.

Harry, 24, third in line to the throne, also mocks the Queen-who is Commander-in-Chief of the British Army-while acting out a mobile phone call to her in front of other cadets at a field camp in Cyprus.

They laugh out loud as the disrespectful Prince pretends to get bored talking to his grandmother and dismissively hangs up on her saying: "Send my love to the corgis. I've got to go, got to go, bye. God Save You . . . yeah, that's great."

He even jokes about the colour of his pubic hair with one soldier in the middle of giving orders.

Last night Clarence House issued an APOLOGY for his behaviour in the shocking video diary-in which Harry is often behind the camera giving a foul-mouthed commentary. Extracts from the shock video can be seen on only our website notw.co.uk

And the Ministry of Defence said last night: "This sort of language is not acceptable in a modern army."

His sick remarks will not only have infuriated the Queen but could also increase tensions with Islamic groups in the UK who were outraged that he went to fight and kill Muslims in Afghanistan.

And they will mortify Army chiefs trying to recruit soldiers from Britian's ethnic minorities.

The film was made in 2006, just a year after Harry was shamed for wearing a Nazi swastika at a fancy dress party and forced to make a grovelling apology.

Flight

It begins as the Prince-about to embark on training as a combat helicopter pilot-joins other cadets gathering at an airport for their flight to Cyprus. He is behind the camcorder, panning around sleeping comrades waiting for their flight.

KISS FROM A PRINCE: Harry plants smacker on comrade

As he films one cadet lying on the departure lounge floor, he says: "This is luxury. And here is our first example of possibly how to admin yourself (slang for looking after your kit and keeping yourself in good order) in the terminal awaiting the RAF."

The camera pans over other snoozing soldiers, with Harry commenting "now that is bad admin, bad admin" before he suddenly stops and zooms in on the face of an unsuspecting Asian cadet yards away.

"Anybody else around here? . . . Ah, our little Paki friend . . . Ahmed," he whispers.

After arriving in Cyprus, Harry is on exercise with his platoon when he makes his second offensive racist comment. Once again he is behind the camera, filming in the dark.

One of his comrades has put what appears to be some camouflage over his head and as he looks up at the lens Harry says: "It's Dan the Man . . . F*** me, you look like a raghead. Look at me. Look at me . . . look away."

The video- obtained by the News of the World- then shows the Prince on manoeuvres in Cyprus with his comrades. Harry plays on-screen reporter, turning the video on himself as he walks along. Then still a Sandhurst military cadet, he sarcastically mocks the exercise they have been given to do.

"It's hot, very hot. Let me quickly show you the camp, let me show you the pointless tasks," he says.

"Maybe not pointless tasks, we have been given by the real Company Sergeant Major, which apparently is all very much worthwhile towards our education in the field." The camcorder is passed to another squaddie. A cadet then introduces Harry as "Mr Wales" and says the prince is "going to attempt to deliver a set of deliberate night attack orders in 30 seconds".

The camera focuses on the Prince as he sits pretending to finish a call to the Queen.

"I've got to go, got to go. Send my love to the corgis. Send my love to the corgis and Grandpa" before making his "God Save You" insult.

Afterwards he pops a cigarette in his mouth before barking orders about an upcoming exercise, saying "we will be wearing smocks, body armour, helmet, and all the usual s**t". After giving the orders the exercise descends into farce when the Prince, wielding an army knife, asks his men if there are any questions.

One of the squad cheekily remarks: "Are your pubes ginger too?"

Harry replies: "Sorry?"

He is then asked the question again and replies: "Yes, they are" to laughter from the rest.

Highs

Later Harry, wielding the camera again, asks another member of the squad to talk through the exercise they have just done.

NO RESPECT: Harry making his mock mobile call to Queen
NO RESPECT: Harry making his mock mobile call to Queen

He asks for "your ups and downs in the exercise. Highs and lows. Good people, bad people. Good points, bad points." Off camera, he adds: "How do you feel? Gay? Queer on the side?" Then Harry asks another cadet: "Anything you want to say? There's no secrets here. Quickly just tell me what the f ** k is going on?"

The sequence ends with a reference to the hit Channel 4 show Big Brother: "Well that's all from sandpit heaven in Cyprus. What you'll next see is probably the diary. Big Brother wants you. Ciao."

Throughout the film, Harry remarks several times: "All is good in the Empire."

Other scenes in the video diary show Harry enjoying party nights out with his pals on manouevres.

In one scene the Prince-now on the wagon-mockingly mouths to another soldier "I love you" before kissing him on the cheek and licking his face. On the same night he is seen holding two fingers to his head, implying he wants to shoot himself because he is so bored by the Greek dancers. Harry's racist slur came 14 months after he was widely criticised over the Nazi costume incident.

In January 2005 the Prince, then 20, wore a swastika on a German Afrika Korps uniform to a fancy dress party.

He was forced to issue an apology saying: "I am very sorry if I have caused any offence. It was a poor choice of costume and I apologise."

SLUR TWO: Harry called this soldier a raghead as he looked up at camera
SLUR TWO: Harry called this soldier a raghead as he looked up at camera

Harry's questionable judgement appears to be following the lead of his grandad the Duke of Edinburgh who has made a string of racist gaffes.

Racist

In March last year, Prince Philip stunned belly dancers during a visit to a Swansea school when he said: "I thought Eastern women just sit around smoking pipes and eating sweets all day." In 2006, he managed to offend the Romanians at a Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme ceremony, saying of the country's many orphanages: "There's so many over there you feel they breed them just to put them in orphanages."

In 2002, he asked an Australian Aborigine, the head of a cultural park: "Do you still throw spears at each other?"

On a visit to China in 1986, he told a group of British students: "If you stay here much longer, you'll all be slitty-eyed." And in 1967, on the suggestion of a royal visit to Russia to improve relations, he said: "The bastards murdered half my family."

NAZI SHOCKER: January 2005
NAZI SHOCKER: January 2005

As a serving army officer Harry's gaffe could get him into deep trouble this time. The Prince, who was promoted to the rank of Lieutentant after serving in Afghanistan, is in clear breach of British Army regulations.

Officers guilty of racism within the Army face 'major administrative action' for misconduct and a range of punishments from written censure to being booted out of the service.

In 2004 a report by the Armed Forces Directorate of Operations Capability, found 40 per cent of soldiers said there was racism in the Army.

Forces top brass are stepping up attempts to attract more soldiers from ethnic minorities in the fight against terrorism.

Muslim recruits who understand the languages of southern Afghanistan are highly prized to interpret Taliban radio chatter. An MOD spokesman added last night: "Neither the Army nor the Armed Forces tolerates inappropriate behaviour in any shape or form.

"The Army takes all allegations of inappropriate behaviour very seriously and all substantive allegations are investigated."

But Harry's offhand use of the word 'Paki' shows that among Sandhurst's officer cadets-the Generals of the future-racist terms are far from taboo. "

Prince says sorry

LAST night Clarence House issued a statement apologising for Harry's behaviour-but claimed he didn't mean to insult anyone.

Of the Paki jibe, the spokesman said: "Prince Harry fully understands how offensive this term can be-and is extremely sorry for any offence his words might cause.

"However, on this occasion three years ago, Prince Harry used the term without any malice and as a nickname about a highly popular member of his platoon.

"There is no question that Prince Harry was in any way seeking to insult his friend.

"Prince Harry is using the term 'raghead' to mean Taliban."

Race body demands inquiry

THE Equality and Human Rights Commission last night demanded a formal inquiry into Prince Harry's jibes, as Muslim groups and leading MPs slammed the Prince.

A spokesman for the Equality and Human Rights Commission, chaired by Sir Trevor Phillips, said they would be investigating.

The spokesman said: "These appear to be disturbing allegations and we will be asking the Ministry of Defence to see the evidence, share their investigation with us and their plans for dealing with it."

A spokesman for the Muslim Council of Great Britain said: "It beggars belief that Prince Harry did not realise just how crude and offensive such a remark is.

"The army is looking to recruit from minority communities and this kind of remark will not help the impression that the army is one of the last refuges of prejuidice towards minorities."

Tory MP and former army officer Patrick Mercer said: "Whatever the context, this fine young officer has made a serious error of judgement that will cause great offence.

"It is unforgiveable."

He was born into a family in which he might not want the responsibilities of having. I think for someone of his stature he is very down to earth which makes him human and compassionate. Great qualities his mother had. Leave him alone and let him live a little.

Whats the big deal..this is how we talk in the army when no senior officers is around...geez

Oh, get over it, you bunch of wussies. He's in the Army, he's serving his country, and he has a sense of humor. So what?

By jean van etten. Posted July 18 2009 at 8:21 PM.

All I see here is a young man having some banter with his mates. I find it scary enough to walk through the park at night with my dog never mind being stuck in a battle zone. I know I would not want to swap places with him!

By Julie. Posted May 24 2009 at 12:17 PM.

He may be a prince, but he's also human. Leave him alone. It's not his fault he was born into that family. He deserves time off from being boring and perfect. It's quite hypocritical to expect royals to be perfect when they're made from the same flesh and blood that the rest of us are too.

By Denise. Posted May 1 2009 at 8:41 AM.

He isn't "just a kid", he is a grown man already, and the most important thing is: he is a Prince! He MUST be PC. Everything he does and says represents you all and your country. This is the way the world see the British people nowadays, because of him (and because of his grandfather, obviously): a bunch of racist people.
The fact that you don't see anything wrong in his behavior tells a whole lot about you people, unfortunately, and that's a shame...
Alas, I'm almost sure you don't really care about the world's opinion, do you?
This paradox is even funny. You are all fussy about the way people should address the Queen, but you defend your extremely impolite Prince. What do you really want after all?

England could use more Harrys and less Browns .The boy is the only survivor out of that neurotic dysfunctional family. Its the p.c. nonsense that put UK in incredible danger in the first place. And it will be real men like Harry, to help bring the UK back. God save Harry.

Wow, is this Prince Harry?

I wish that all princes in Thailand speak and act like PH.

PH is just one of us. This is good. He has a good feel of the people and the commoner.

As for the Paki word, geesh. That word came from another moslem along long time ago. It's really an honor for a Pakistani soldier. He feels that he is recognized.

In military, you can hear every kind of sh*tty things. It's called tough talk and tough play. Even women in military speak that way too when they horse around.

SO GIVE UP, PC babies.

By Thaiboy. Posted April 12 2009 at 1:43 PM.

Is that all that you've got, Harry boy?

You need to learn more. If you're in the middle of the battle and your guys are seriously hurt and in pain, you need to improve your "humor". You need tougher words, Harry boy.

Nevertheless, you're still young. You'll learn more.

And you're into the right path. You're the only "non-boring" member of the Royalty. You should be King. My King Harryboy.

Go, Harryboy!!! Always make us happy and proud!

By David. Posted April 11 2009 at 11:58 PM.

I do not see what's shocking... Probably are those shocked who never experienced life in the military. They probably should and see that their tight ass attitude is boring and hypocrit and good friends can even joke about each other much more. The problem here seems just to be that words intended to friends end up in the ears of the "tight asses" and world morale preachers. That, for sure, a public relevant person should always consider. To be a prince of the friends and the tight asses alike.. that is the question.

By Nick Peucelle. Posted April 2 2009 at 1:37 AM.

He should make a personal apology and be a man for once instead of hiding behind Clarence House.

By Kel. Posted March 29 2009 at 2:39 PM.

Prince harry is still a young man finding himself in the world, he is having fun and being one of the lads, phrases comments and expressions like these get used every day by the public and i understand that he does need to be more careful about what he says as he is royalty and everyone is watching but i think we should also allow him the freedom to be able to be himself and not have to worry about what he says all the time.

By L.H. Posted March 22 2009 at 10:18 PM.

Would the same fuss have been created if Prince Harry, or anyone else for that matter used the word "Brit" to describe someone British. Is "Brit" not widely used to describe a person from Britain. So if you regard "Paki" (short for Pakistan/Pakistani) as racist, then should you not also regard "Brit" (short for Britain/british) or "Scot" (short for Scotland/Scottish) along the same lines (many other examples exist). Many slang words for certain nationalities exist but are not said to be racist. Also i suggest that anyone who wants to play the racism card, firstly looks up the definition of racism. The words "Double standards" spring to mind. If "Paki" is classed as racist, then so should the words "Brit,Scot,Yank,Pole,Aussie,Paddy,Chek" and many many more. Then what about regional descriptions "Cockney, scouser, manc" ect... Then we could talk about personal nicknames... If i said that a programme called "Brits Abrord" was an offensive and racist title, would that be taken off the air. Well lets see:- I am hereby stating that The title of the programme "Brits Abrord" is an offensive and racist title, as is any programme with the word or words "Brit and/or "Brits" in the title and/or anywhere in its content. Now, will the news of the world pick up on this issue ? I think not !

By patricia. Posted March 12 2009 at 12:30 PM.

I think it's hilarious to be honest. Not the racist words, of course, but he's a young man and he's NORMAL. He's just having a laugh with his mates and I think he's really funny, making fun of the queen etc. The British public do that all the time, so why can't he?! People seem to want the royal family to be perfect in every way, to be like saints, which was attainable (in the public eye at least) in previous generations when not every single person in the entire country owns a phone with a camera or a camcorder, where the paparazzi didn't follow you everywhere you went and when tabloid newspapers didn't pay millions of pounds just to see a video of someone in the public eye doing something of interest. Prince Harry didn't ASK to be born into the Royal family, I don't see why he has to lose his sense of humour just because he is a prince.

As for the 'racism', I'm pretty sure all the other lads in the army use the same terms. To be in the army you have to be tough, you'll get nowhere being an over sensitive, walking-on-eggshells wuss. This country is WAY too PC.

I'm not a fan of the Royal Family, I don't think we need them, but the youngest generation of that family are keeping it real. They are living their lives like normal teens / young men and women and they shouldn't be judged for every single word that comes out of their mouth! Go Harry!

By Sammie. Posted March 11 2009 at 1:51 PM.

Big deal. He is a 24 year old lad in the forces having a bit of banter. If he had been joe public this video wouldnt even warrant a mention.

Im sick of all this racist this and racist that , like other colours arent racist against us , oh yes they are big time.
Ginger pubes so what .

By sarah. Posted March 1 2009 at 6:49 AM.

Give it up. It's a bunch of guys having fun because they are bored to tears being away from home and their lives. I am absolutely sure Harry or the others meant nothing derrogatory by these unconscious, playful, friendly remarks. Get honest with yourselves everybody and let this alone. It is not worth the effort and if the British Army chastises Harry, I, personally will lose respect for them, right fast.
Everybody has done it in private and this was in private ... just a bunch of Army mates horsing around IN PRIVATE.

By the Strategist. Posted February 28 2009 at 9:08 PM.

Anyone who has ever spent any ammount of time in the forces will know that soldiers' jokes are never very PC. As an former ethnic minority soldier myself, I have borne the brunt of so-called destructive humour to an extent far, far worse than anything PH is accused of. You can't blame PH for being what he is - a toffee-nosed white boy! There I said it: I made a racial slur - albeit a rather more acceptible one in contemporary terms. Most soldiers are men, and as such have a rather uncouth sense of humour - this might not be to everyone's liking, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. You adjudicate on PH for a thoughtless but all the same utterly irrelevent couple of comments, and you might as well try regulating all the humour in the entire Army, Navy and Air Force. The only reason he gets the hammer this hard is because of who he is. If the father of the young officer against whom the comment was made doesn't understand the nature of the organisation his son is now a part of, he is in need of a serious wake up call!! I'm not saying the Forces are perfect, there is still massive room for improvement, but this is not the right place to go looking for it. This is picking the scab and ignoring the tumour.

I read that Prince Harry is to attend equality course

Give me a break!!!. Please, those without sin are welcome to cast the first stone

This was nothing more than some soldiers blowing off steam. Would have never made the press had it not been the "spare heir".

Absolutely ridiculous that he should be called to task for this remark. His grandmother should say "We are not amused with you PC types" and dismiss the whole affair...

after all.... "equality and diversity” can be and have been taken as offensive!!

By Kimberly Noyce. Posted February 12 2009 at 12:53 PM.

This is so pathetic! If Harry was just any "dude" nothing would be said. Has nobody actually listened to a bunch of guys talking? I honestly don't think any offence was meant - or taken. Most people who are so "offended" are just feeling sour grapes that they were born commoners when they see that a "royal" is so ordinary.

I was going to join the UK army in 1980 as an officer. I was proud to be able to serve my country and wear an officers uniform. However due to comments like Prince Harry's I decided not to persue this course.

Prince Harry should know better. His comments show an underlying disrespect for other people/cultures, other than his own. Its a shame that 30 years later things have not changed in the UK

I met his mother on two occasions. If she were alive she would have been very upset with this episode in her sons life.

I now live in North America owning and running a substantial business. In my twelve years in this country I have never experienced bias due to my colour or ethnicity.

I still love my country (UK) and hope that the new generation will rise to the challenge of equality & understanding. Which will pave the way for a better future for all.

I have been to the US a few times now, and I'm yet to see an American with perfect teeth. Bad healthcare? Well it IS freely available, but personally, my local hospital is ahead of scheduled lists & is performing brilliantly. Bad food....where did unhealthy fast food originate from again? Bad weather..ok so it's cold in winter and we get a fair amount of rain, but how about devastating tornado's, hurricanes & volcanoes? Bad music...hmmm jury's out on that one. Ugly women....considering all your white descendants would be the same as ours, what does that say? It's all in the DNA baby.

And, personally, I'm not trashing a very funny prince, so there (blows raspberry)

I read the headline and then watched the video and can not believe the big deal being made, lol. Poor Harry....this is everyday stuff in the military.

By Robert. Posted January 15 2009 at 6:07 AM.

I'm Asian, and my white friends have all sorts of brilliant racist banter with me - and I usually start it. There's a difference between genuine, vicious racism (which I can read in the subtext of a number of "anti-PC" comments here) and a bit of raillery with friends. I have a large number of homosexual friends as well, and I make gay jokes around them, and they play along. It's all genuinely good-natured. From Harry's tone of voice, and from my experience in the military itself, it's almost certain that the comments in the video are benign. Racism in the armed forces must be punished severely, therefore it is essential to distinguish between bigotry and consensual humour to avoid punishing the innocent. I know Harry will have to receive a slap on the wrist, but at the same time it would be unjust to punish him further. As for whether or not some people are being too PC, or notions about what soldiers are like, all that is irrelevant. The only important issue is whether or not Harry was being racist, and I don't think he was.

By WM. Posted January 15 2009 at 3:40 AM.

See this attitude is common amongst most people, all this say no to racism simply has no effect.

It's disgraceful everybody saying "whats the big deal", "no biggie" etc.

Some of you will never understand, you will go through life in wonderful Britain ever without understanding.

THIS COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN THE PAN, NO IS DOWN THE PAN AND HAS BEEN FED TO THE DOGS.

Because of people like Harry and people in these comments, you're all unedcuated fools who couldn't give a toss. enjoy the demise of your economy and keep lending until your in unrepayable debts.

As a Cavalry officer only 2 years younger than Harry myself, I can tell you from personal experience that this entire video is remarkably tame, and classic Army Officer banter. I bet his CSM laughed too. I did, and his orders that supposedly descended into a farce were actually not too bad bearing in mind he was having a laugh! Those of you who are offended by this should see some videos of my troop, though apparently you'd die of shock, so better not. You all need to get your heads out of your arses and leave him alone. And why would you get offended by him taking the mickey out of the queen? If anyone's in a position to do so, isn't it her grandson? Bet she didn't care at all. But whatever, if you want to know what I'm talking about, go and spend an evening at your nearest Officers' Mess. If you think you can handle it.

what is the fuss about? has the world gone mad? if that is racist then I am a Dutchman! or is that racist too?

By JM. Posted January 13 2009 at 9:45 PM.

If Harry behaved like some of the 'holier than thou' royals that some people think he should do, he would have lasted about five minutes in the armed forces. For the simple reason that no-one would listen to the 'arrogant a***hole' when it mattered.

The idea of a standoffish royal family is about 50 years out of date, as was demonstrated overwhelmingly by the public response to Harrys mother when she was first targeted by the press.

This reaction is still apparant, as shown by the lack of acceptance of Camilla who is only tolerated because she stays very much in the background.

The British people want a down-to-earth royal family and Harry is an example of this. It is only a few loud-mouthed people who see insult where none exists.

My son is the same age as Harry and the comments emanating from my kitchen on a Saturday night make the comments from Harry seem very tame.

He works in the catering trade and most of his friends are not of British Origin. It is a game amongst them to see who can think of the worst insult to say to each other but no-one is ever offended.

harry for king :-)

By geert. Posted January 13 2009 at 5:18 PM.

What frustrates me most about this whole situation is that the "PC" crowd and the media don't see the damage that they are causing this country by reacting like this. It only further serves to highlight any potential difference that may remain between the cultures and races of this World, and damage any feelings of oneness that so many have campaigned and sacrificed for.

If we are going to live together in peace, and truly learn to love and respect each other, then we need to learn to relax and allow a deep sense of trust to develop. This will NEVER be achieved if we feel we have to tip toe around each other on eggshells.

By Max Williams. Posted January 13 2009 at 3:38 PM.

Dont you people have more important things to worry about in your country? Perhaps those highly strung politically correct morons with nothing better to whinge about should take a trip to a South Africa. We couldnt give a toss what we call each other and we get along just dandy, thank you very much, despite the carnage and mayhem predicted by the rest of the world. One thing we all love about the Brits (sorry I spose that is now a derogatory name?) is their ability to take the piss out of themselves first and formost, which is why South Africans and Poms (sorry another one) get on so well. Perhaps we should send our 3 expert race relation officers over to the UK for some training - namely Mark Lottering, Riaad Moosa and Nik Rabinowitz. Now they would make their hair curl. Or stand on end. Oh no I've done it again.

By Soutie Coloured from Cape Town. . Posted January 13 2009 at 2:46 PM.

only shows he's got a good sense of humor, i kinda always imagine him being uptight... and isnt it good for a prince to be able to experience the world in a commoner view? rather then being in a safe zone all the time?

By dotdot. Posted January 13 2009 at 10:54 AM.

No, emma, racism is not about denying someone equal rights because of their "race", it's about believing that for example, there are white, black and yellow races, and that these races are not equal and have innate inborn differences. Ie. blacks run faster, whites are more intelligent, orientals are worker bees, THAT kind of thing IS racism.
Check any encyclopedia or dictionary.

Emma, if you believe "whites" and "blacks", then I'm sorry to tell you you are racist too.

By that's not what racism means. Posted January 13 2009 at 10:44 AM.

Thats just squaddie humour! There is no meaning to what he said, people have blown this well out of proportion, all because its prince Harry! His video should be taken in the right context as it's not aggressive, or meant with heart! The public need to grow up and worry about real race issues!!

By Steve. Posted January 13 2009 at 9:51 AM.

Englishmen really need to grow a pair.

By Tero. Posted January 13 2009 at 9:05 AM.

Come on! He is just a normal 24 year old, kidding around and having a laugh with his mates. Do you really mean that he should be stiff and royal for every second of his life? GIVE THE GUY A BREAK!

By Susy. Posted January 13 2009 at 7:34 AM.

Having did 20 years in the Navy this is very minor stuff and I don't see what the problem is? This is after all behavior amongst peers.

By Mark C. Posted January 13 2009 at 6:13 AM.

Oh for god's sake get your panties out of that bunch their in!!!

How old is Harry.....like 24??? Take a chill pill yall. He is just a young dude and didn't mean anything by it.

To me, it's funny, and I like Harry even more because of this. All you over the top pc loving whinebags go wipe the a$$ off your faces!

By Candice in Texas. Posted January 13 2009 at 3:57 AM.

what is the problem????? i didnt find anything wrong with what he said. u all make to much out of nothing. what is this world comin toooooooo?????

By Emma. Posted January 13 2009 at 3:44 AM.

I think everyone is making something out of nothing. He was hanging with his Army buddies. He was joking around he was not being mean and it was years ago besides. I think the press should leave both of those young men (William & Harry) alone. With all that is going on in the world this is the best thing the news media and come up with to report on.

By DJ. Posted January 13 2009 at 2:25 AM.

ive bin reading all the posts and im amazed by the views of britian today!!! how can you think it isnot offensive what harry said

this is not about pollitical correctness at all! think about it ppl hary represents the uk, he cant go round saying stuff like that, joke or no joke!!

imagine if an asian soldier said a racist comment like that about white ppl or black ppl, do u think people would find that such harmless fun, do u think we are all being over pollitically correct then

this is just another way of ppl in th UK not giving a crap about different minorities, everythin is not just BLACK AND WHITE

well will ppl learn to open their eyes... no wonder minorities here in britain are becoming more segregated...

By YAZ. Posted January 13 2009 at 1:54 AM.

just saw the actual video, the publicity made it sound a lot worse than it seemed to be. he didn't sound like he was intentionally being derogatory, just a guy using some humour. humour doesn't have to reflect his political beliefs. honestly, i've heard a lot worse than that coming from people daily, it sucks that he's a royal and having to be put on the spot for it. maybe it might've been stupid for him considering his position in life, but what can you expect, he's a normal guy. i've more pity than anger for him.

By addie . Posted January 12 2009 at 11:35 PM.

I think little chap harry is immature and silly. If he does not have brain, so a mad person can say whatever he wants...wish you good health little man

By ali. Posted January 12 2009 at 11:34 PM.

*exasperated sigh* Men rag on eachother. My father and brother and their friends called eachother names all the time! (And they are of different nationalities, religions etc) Racisim is denying people the same rights as others based on race. My black friends make "white" jokes all the time. Should I be offended? Run to HR? Get an attorney??? NO! Because it is all in good fun. If I was denied a position in a company or in the service based on my race, then yes. These days everyone is walking on egg shells. Boys/Men bond this way...a little name calling... hit on the shoulder..whatever. I dont see him as being a racisit!

By melissa. Posted January 13 2009 at 12:14 AM.

Is that all he said? After everything I heard about this I thought the young prince was making true racist remarks. Give him a break people!! He was only clowning around. It just makes him a real person to me. Get over yourselves!!!

By Astonished. Posted January 13 2009 at 12:14 AM.

Guy is messed up. ished and god be with him

By Jabar Iman Ahmend. Posted January 13 2009 at 12:09 AM.

I like prince Harry, he's not a girly man like those that criticize him in the comments above.

By Arius. Posted January 12 2009 at 10:49 PM.

Getting back to the point at issue. Is Prince Harry a racist? I would suggest not. Rather, he is a damn fine example of what British youth can, and should, be. But then, being British, perhaps it would be more acceptable, in line with current government initiatives, for him to join a street gang and spend his time setting fire to cars and wreaking havoc on our estates.

Clearly, Harry is not perfect, but, more recently than the events captured on this video, he has demonstrated his ability, and suitability, to serve his country in a way that most people, ‘outraged’ by this incident, could never even dream of. In his determination to serve in Afghanistan when, let’s face it, he didn’t have to go, he has shown real courage and conviction and demonstrated his true potential. Let’s hope that he is, one day, allowed to realise that potential, rather than being prematurely crucified by the media and buried by this ridiculous excuse for a government.

By Richard Foster. Posted January 12 2009 at 10:36 PM.

Brilliant!!!! The kid has a sense of humor!! He has chosen to do something positive with his life instead of living of the dole. Get a grip everyone.

By NOLA10. Posted January 12 2009 at 11:16 PM.

harry rock on man.
And yes soldiers are all the same, that is how we deal with these kind of stuf.
It does not mean that we are rasist.

A sarge from the royal dutch army.

By Hans. Posted January 12 2009 at 10:00 PM.

as your doctor, I'd say you people are all sick. someone here did note that Harry IS a representative of Britain. As any British soldier is! You see how the US is represented in Abu Graib? Same thing here... All Brits are racist monsters to the rest of the world. Thanks, Harry!

Soldiers letting off steam? Say it isn't so!

By Larry. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:57 PM.

For goodness sake, we all make mistakes and inappropriate comments at times - he was just having a laugh with his mates.

By Anonymouse. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:29 PM.

i cant stand all this politically correct bs. He is just being what he is. A guy in the army just because he is a prince doesnt mean he cant relax and speak how his friends would

By ben. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:51 PM.

The PC brigade are out again. At last, someone in the Royal family with a sense of humour and some normality.

By PC Gonemad. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:46 PM.

wow, and i thought we were tight asses over here in america about this stuff. Dont know what the fuss is about, he seems like a cool guy and having a bit of fun. Wish some of my officers were like that when I was in the military. And the stuff he was saying was G-rated compared to the things I heard everyday.

By Yanke Paul. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:39 PM.

people are jumping on the band-wagon again!

By lauren. Posted January 12 2009 at 7:45 PM.

Several comments here say how Harry is behaving like a normal young soldier. Well, actually I don't want a Prince of the realm to be a normal person. I want him to be extraordinary. I want him to have a greater awareness of what is supportable behaviour for someone in his priviledged position. If he wants to be an ordinary soldier, let him be defrocked from the Royal family. Otherwise, let him realise he is ALWAYS on show and representing his country and Queen. That said, we should be grateful he was not in the navy, or every other word would have had to be beeped out !

By Peter in NZ. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:09 PM.

I've looked at the video and still can't figure out what he did that was so wrong. Please send Harry to us. We would love him in the USA - he rocks! He also looks like a fine leader. His dad should be proud. I bet his men love him.

By tess. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:04 PM.

i am 1000% Harry.
I joke with my friends all the time, and i am sure his intention wasn't to be a racist in front of the camera!!! leave the boy alone...he's totally playing with his buddies and his buddies playing around with him.
let the boy alone!!!

By clarissa. Posted January 12 2009 at 7:54 PM.

I heard/saw nothing wrong with the comments. Geez...

By Ken. Posted January 12 2009 at 7:53 PM.

Maybe I'm getting off subject here (or maybe I'm hitting right on the head), but just wanted to say thank you very much to all the brave British men and women serving in the military and risking their lives for others.

By Kyle, USA. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:34 PM.

I live in the States, and I feel grateful to the open-minded posters on this board. It is comforting to know that Harry views Russia with a Churchillesque disregard. I believe Harry is from a generation that knows the difference between destructive racism and good humor. Political correctness be damned.

By Bozo. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:28 PM.

The modern army fits Harry's personality, no shocker.

By cbk16. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:25 PM.

Haha cheers! He is not perfect, so what...

By Last in Line. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:19 PM.

Lord Bless England, the Queen, and especially her very brave grandson who is off in the service of his country! I'd like to buy him a drink!

By Joe Mc. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:16 PM.

LOL! If you think this is bad, you should hear the jokes we use after firefights to calm nerves. Soldiers are soldiers, and they are all the same everywhere. Sure officers should set the example, but eventually boredom can get even the best of us during the "Hurry up and wait" game. Privately owned camera, with a little light hearted banter with some buddies, welcome to every free military in the world. You could send a video camera to 10 soldiers for a year then ask to see the tapes, 9 out of 10 wont be much different, American or Brit.

By AreUkiddingme. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:03 PM.

why are people saying he needs to get a proper job I'm sorry but last time I checked working in the army fighting for your country is a job

and yes... HARRY ROCKS

also most written things are like esays I only tend to read short things instead of reading an esay about hatred.

By Sophie ;]. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:00 PM.

i thought that was FUNNY!!!
i am black and me and my friends always make jokes like this in jest at the end of the day harry is a normal young man and as everybody knows men do stupid things!!and...this was 3 years ago why is it only coming out now?
we all know that harry is a bit of a lad and 3 line heir to throne or not boys just want to have fun leave him ALONE and let him be!!! I LOVE YOU HARRY!!!!
i hope you make it as king

By Lola. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:55 PM.

As a "Yank" and a 32 year career U.S. Soldier I can sympathize with the Prince. He is apparently becoming a "victim" of the PC crowd.

Get over yourselves people. Not all tasteless jokes are mean't to harm your sensibilities, most often they are mean't meerly to cut the boredom.

By Rodger. Posted January 12 2009 at 8:52 PM.

Maybe he thinks he's Prince Harry from Shakespeare's Henry IV Part One?

By PeterTerp. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:23 PM.

I don't know about everyone else but I thought this was actually pretty funny. Can't really see what the big deal about it was.

By Sabrina. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:15 PM.

As one who's son served honorably as convoy security from Kuwait City though Iraq to Turkey during the 2006 US elections-where were all the human rights/though police when our dispicable left was using their lies to get elected. Those lies and other comments ACTUALLY put our soldier's at risk and gave aid and comfort to our enemies. These kids are at war preserving these groups right to voice their opinions-that's what they are-opinions. Leave the Prince alone and look in the mirror lefties.

By CWilliams. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:14 PM.

leave the lad alone - he's having fun with his mates - i thought the whole "god save you" bit was hilarious! they're risking their lives for their country - so what if he lets out a bit of steam with humour. we all do it in the privacy of our homes - so GET OVER IT!

By Dale. Posted January 12 2009 at 9:14 PM.

The only reason this is news, is because it is Prince Harry. I mean I in no way condone racism, but that kinda of language is rampant in the military. Harry honestly seems like he is just trying to fit in with his comrades.

By Bob . Posted January 12 2009 at 9:13 PM.

Leave the guy alone...again much ado about completely nothing...he was not being cruel......
