It breaks my heart to see these lads getting killed, how brave they are,the government is not doing enough to help keep them safe,I ask,why are our lads out there anyway?why do our lads have to fight for other countries,we need them here. I have a grandson who is 16,Perry-James,always wanted to join the army since he was a little boy,he goes to Harrogate in September, going in as a combat/medic,so when he turns 18 you don't have to guess where he'll be going, you can imagine how worried we all are,we are so proud of him,but we want him to live his life

I am a big supporter of our armed forces. I am a Loyalist and so proud to be from this great country.
But do you know what, I am tired of seeing our brave young heroes coming home and driving through Whotton Basset in coffins.
I remember listening to what Harry Patch had to say, and do you know what its still relevent.
The only way we can make any progress here is to talk to them. This is a different war than Hitler.... We need to understand what it is we are doing that hacks these people off so much that they want to kill us. Like the IRA the only way forward is to talk,

Whilst our boys are having to buy their own kit and equipment from websites like soldier of forune, and leave the sub-standard MOD stuff in their locker, and, and have us send over paint brushes for them to dust for mines....... we will continue to see this heart-breaking list of names lengthen.
Shame on you Mr Brown.
RIP and thank you to each and every one of the above.

I.E.D
A cowardly evil weapon the I.E.D
While our troops fight to set the Afghan free
Away from home in a foreign land
Living in tents in the desert sand
I.E.D dressed up to sound nice
Improvised explosive device
Deadly as it is, could be from the Somme
Why dont they say a roadside bomb?
Is it to confuse civilians, so that they dont see?
The realities of war shown on their TV
We feel the families sorrow and imagine their pain
May our troops come home safe to their loved ones again?
To those who have paid the highest price
Victims of this explosive device
We spend some time, quietly reflect
Send our heartfelt thanks and deep RESPECT

i left the army after afghanistan when i got home in 2006 we should not bring our troops home because i was a medic and when i was on patrol with the canadians and americans a suicide bomber hit a local school killing and wounding many children and all these children want is too get a education and better themselves and it is something we in britain take for granted and the general public should understand that i held many young children that day injured and dead now i would like somebody to say to my face we are not making a difference and we need to come home and please don't forget these suicide bombers were on our door step not long ago trying to kill our relatives remember the old saying keep your enemies closer and unfotunately it does come at a price and i know that because i lost some very close friends. a veteran who served in bosnia, kosovo, iraq and afghanistan remember i will never forget the crys, smells, sights and my fallen friends EVER.

Can anyone else here see the hypocrisy we portray as a nation when we are the only country in the world to tax our serving troops? Yet we parade them in pine boxes when they return, knowing they paid 30% tax of their minuscule wage (wages derived solely from tax) only to be in that position.
If I as well come back in a box, I hope any government official can see my two fingers for delving into my pockets yet once again even as I and others faced death.
If the News of the World or Sun wanted to 'Help our Heroes' how about confronting the government on this ultimate show of disrespect to 'our boys'?
