JUDE Law is to demand a DNA test from pregnant model Samantha Burke to see if he really is the father, we can reveal.

In the latest twist to the baby sensation, the Brit actor has told friends he wants PROOF before vowing to stand by the 24-year-old American beauty.

Reports last week claimed Law, 36, had ruled out a test as unnecessary, but a close pal told us: "At the moment Jude doesn't know for sure he is the father. He thinks he is - but he wants to be 100 per cent certain.

"There has been a lot of speculation. But if it is his baby girl he'll be there for her every step of the way."

The test could be carried out while Florida-based Samantha is pregnant, although there would be a small risk of harming the daughter she is calling Sophia. Alfie star Law has told friends if he is the father he will be the "best daddy in the world" to the little girl who is due in October. He has already broken the news to ex-wife Sadie Frost and his children - Rafferty, 12, Iris, eight, and six-year-old Rudy.

Our insider blasted reports that Samantha took intimate shots of the star during their brief fling last year. Law was said to be petrified that the photos would leak out causing more heartache for his family. "This couldn't be further from the truth," the pal insisted.

Meanwhile Samantha has appeared in public for the first time since the news emerged, wearing a tight dress showing off her bump. She admitted: "It's a hard time."
