News International was the UK's first newspaper company to go carbon neutral.
We reduced our carbon emissions by a whopping 54 per cent between 2007 and 2008.
And we aim to lead the industry in recycling.
Our newspapers are made out of almost 90 per cent recycled paper.
The other 10 per cent is made from virgin fibre, the by-products from sawmills such as sawdust and shavings that would otherwise be thrown away.
For every tree cut down to make our newspapers, three more are replanted.
All newspaper waste and unsold papers are recycled.
And we are using revolutionary new technology to slash the amount of energy we use.
Our old printing presses have been replaced with super-green models that are 15 per cent more efficient.
And the lights at our new print sites use 30 per cent less energy than the previous ones.
All our buildings are powered with electricity from renewable sources.
News International staff are encouraged to recycle at work, switch off computers when they are not being used and cycle to and from the office.
Steve Howard, CEO of the Climate Group, said: "News International has proven to be an impressive leader on climate change.
"It has taken early action to reduce its own carbon impact, and to reach out to its millions of readers.
"When a company with such immense potential impact takes up the challenge, substantive changes can follow."
