Her clients include the Beckhams and Elton John, so it's no surprise Kelly Hoppen, 49, has gained a reputation for being the queen of stylish interiors. But it's in the bedroom of her west London townhouse where she feels most at home.

"I love chilling there, but it's also a social place," she says. "Last night I had a party - at one point six of us were lying on the bed chatting!

"Your bedroom should be sexy and calming, making you feel rested and great about yourself."

Here, Kelly shows us how you can follow in her designer footseps and create a cool and relaxed boudoir using low lighting, dark woods, layered textures and trimmings.

KELLY'S EYE FOR STYLE:

LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE Lowlighting makes a woman feel sexy. I have fice lights in my bedroom, which are all set to low. But beware, lights above a mirror or on the ceiling are unflattering.

LAYERED EFFECT Use your bed as the focal point to layer textures and fabric for contrast. I have a velvet throw and cushions on mine.

SET THE MOOD Little vases containing fresh flowers will add a delicate natural scent to the room.

DECORATE FROM THE HEART Surround yourself with reminders of nice people and times. On my bedside tale of have photos of my children, my step-daughters - Sienna and Savannah [Miller[ - and my grandchildren.

GOOD POSITIONING According to feng shui experts, the angle of your bed is crucial for a good night's sleep. Either facing or adjacent to the window is best.

DE-CLUTTER Mess in a bedroom muddles the mind so hide away books and clothes. I have a TV but it gets put away behind a cupboard after use.

CREATE A CONTRAST Choose furniture in a dark shade of wood to contrast with white walls and carpet.

I too love the dressing table and was hoping you could let me know where you got it from - it would be perfect for our bedroom as it is compact and I can fill it up with all my cosmetics!! :) thanks
