Awards season is in full swing and there's one film that everyone's talking about - Precious. Based on the novel, Push, by Sapphire, it tells the story of Precious, a teenage girl (played by the Oscar-tipped newcomer Gabourey Sidibe) growing up in New York in the late '80s.
Precious' life is blighted by abuse, poverty and a lack of education, but during the film she goes on a journey out of the bleakness of her life to a more hopeful place.
While Gabourey is a relative unknown, the film also features some more familiar faces, but as you've never seen them before.
Mariah Carey abandons her usual glamorous attire and is almost unrecognisable as Precious' social worker, while Lenny Kravitz plays a sympathetic nurse.
Precious received three Golden Globe nominations and we think there will be Oscars aplenty for this gem of a film. Watch the trailer now.
