Actor Simon Pegg shares his thoughts and life experiences

I'm at my best when... I'm happy, not distracted by anything, content with work and busy - but not overloaded. I always like to be moving and working. I'm a bit of a workaholic, I think.

Those closest to me would describe me as... grumpy. I'm not the 'sad clown' - that cliché of funny people being tortured and angst ridden - but I'm not sunny all the time either.

One thing about my past I don't easily admit is... I'm open about my past because I don't have any secrets, but I won't talk about my personal life. I don't understand people who let cameras into their homes and have their babies photographed. I can't relate to that.

Three things I'd want if I was stranded on a desert island are... electricity, hot water and a fully stocked bar - it's terribly predictable, I know, but I like a nice lager.

One thing I'd like to do before I die is... drink in a little more of the world. We live on such a small planet and if you have the resources, it's not difficult to see places. If more people travelled, we'd have a more peaceful world.

If I advertised myself on a dating site, it would read... "Fun-loving guy seeks similar female."

The thing I like least about myself is... my inability to keep weight off. And I've never had good hair. I'm very critical about my appearance and so are people who write about me. I'm not sure why it's OK to undermine me. It only intensifies my dislike of my looks.

My fantasy dinner date would be... John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Their relationship fascinates me - the coincidence of them coming together and the effect they had on the world.

The thing I value most is... my family and friends. I'm looking forward to being a dad and having a family. I just want be a good father [Simon and wife Maureen are about to have their first child].

If I wasn't an actor I'd be... I've always wanted to be an actor and comedian!

My biggest regret is... I quite unceremoniously ended my relationship with my first girlfriend, who I met at Bristol University. I look back and think that was childish and I regret it.

Answer the following...
When I get angry I tend to lose my temper Often
I'm a perfectionist Always
People who know me best would describe me as a moody person Always
I enjoy making people feel appreciated Always
I love debating intellectual ideas and concepts Always

'FRAGILE SIMON LIKES TO IMPROVISE'
JAMES SAYS: "Simon's picture reflects the strong polarity and fragility of his emotional world. The sun shows he is usually a generous-spirited person, but the clouds symbolise negative emotions too.

When Simon experiences self-doubt, he will crave the protection of his family and close friends. The most likely cause of this volatility is a difficult, insecure childhood where he experienced negative or inconsistent attention.

As someone who dislikes structure and rigid schedules, Simon does best in situations where he has the freedom to improvise and work outside established rules. His perfectionism also means he prefers to do fewer things to a very high standard, rather than taking on too much.

Simon is perceptive of others and will be able to win them over to his way of thinking with his humorous style."

James is a specialist in psychometric testing.

Simon is the voice of Buck in Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, at cinemas July 1.
