Party Hair! All tressed up

...and everywhere to go! With the party season upon us, we showcase the looks that are sure to turn heads

GEE FRIZZ!
The perm is back! "It's ideal for fine hair," says Angelo Seminara, Trevor Sorbie's International Creative Director, who styled these looks for Fabulous.

Step 1: Wash your hair the day before. Take a 2cm wide section and tightly twist it in a figure of eight over and under a hair pin. Cross over the ends of the pin to secure.

Step 2: Apply straighteners for a few seconds to make it curl quicker. Repeat the process until all your hair is pinned up, then spritz with hairspray, such as L'Oréal Elnett Satin Diamond Hold & Shine, £4.39.

Step 3: When hair is cool, remove the pins. Put your head upside down and brush out the curls. Hold in place with Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautiful Volume Hair Spray, £4.99.

PILE IT HIGH
For a retro party vibe, step back to the '60s with an up-to-date take on the beehive. "This works really well on shoulder-length hair," explains Angelo. "It's all about making a beehive at the back and creating a sweep at the front to stop it from looking too severe. Remember, the bigger the better!"

Step 1: Leaving the front section of your hair free, section the back in half vertically from your crown down to the back of your neck. Backcomb each section until it's standing on end. (Yes, you'll look silly, but bear with us!)

Step 2: Take one half and fold it under itself towards the parting line and pin into place with kirby grips. Do the same on the other half to create what looks like a French pleat. Spritz on some Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautifully Moisturised Humidity Control Spray, £4.99 (left), to hold in place and eliminate frizz.

Step 3: Rub Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Dust It Mattifying Powder, £10.45, in the front section to rough up the hair slightly - this gives the look a rockier effect.

CURL POWER
"This classic party look is perfect for long hair," says Angelo. "You need time for the curls to set, so grab a glass of champers while you wait."

Step 1: You don't want dry ends ruining your look, so wash hair with a shampoo that tames frizz, such as Kérastase Nutritive Bain Oléo-Relax Shampoo, £13.90, and Masque, £24.90. Blow-dry hair with a large round brush for a smooth finish. Denman Large Thermo Hot Curl Brush, £10.28, is ideal.

Step 2: Wrap thick sections of hair around tongs until the hair is hot. Spray with Pantene Pro-V Perfect Curls Bouncy Hold Hairspray, £3.27. Instead of unwrapping the hair, remove the tongs but keep the curl in place and pin it up with a kirby grip. Spray again with hairspray.

Step 3: Remove the grips and gently separate using your fingers, but try not to touch the curls too much as this will create frizz. Finish with Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautifully Straightened Lightweight Serum, £5.99. This party must-have will keep your style frizz-free and fabulous, however hard you rock around the Christmas tree.

VINTAGE GLAMOUR
Volume is key this party season, but have you thought of getting your hair to go backwards instead of upwards? "By using a hair doughnut, you can make hair look instantly volumised," says Angelo. "These are available from all good pharmacies for a few pounds. They're made from netting and are the shape of a doughnut. Hair can be pinned into them to make it look thicker."

Step 1: If you have a natural curl, apply some Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautiful Curls Curl Constructor, £4.99, into damp hair and dry naturally. Stuck with straight hair? Apply the Curl Constructor to damp locks, roughly blow-dry, then tong all over for a natural wavy look.

Step 2: Halfway down your head, section your hair horizontally and pin a hair doughnut on the parting line. Starting from the top, take sections of hair and pin into the doughnut. Do the same from the bottom so it's totally covered.

Step 3: This style works best if it looks a little messy. For party sparkle, spray on Bumble And Bumble Bb.shine, £27.50.

PUMP UP THE VOLUME
Love spending all night living it up on the dance floor? Then this is the ideal style for you. "The volume at the roots will keep your hair bouncy, while the rest will be gorgeously straight - perfect for flicking around mid-dance move!" says Angelo.

Step 1: The key to getting straight hair that doesn't fall flat is using the correct shampoo. Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautifully Straightened Protection Shampoo, £4.99, will encourage your hair to stay sleek and straight all night without losing its body.

Step 2: Apply a small amount of Samy Silk Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum, £4.99, from the roots to the mid-lengths of your hair. This gives added oomph at the roots but will keep the ends smooth. Tip your head upside down and blow-dry your hair to create total va-va-voom!

Step 3: Flick your hair back - the party look you're going for is beautifully straight but ultra-volumised locks. Finish off by spritzing with Trevor Sorbie Professional Beautiful Volume Dry Shampoo, £4.99 (left). It will act as a hair spray as well as giving your roots that final boost of body.
