MIRRORED MANI
For
summer, nails get a gloss-over with new glamour polishes - so shiny they'll
leave even last season's fluoro shades in the dark. Bourjois So Laque! Ultra
Shine nail varnish, £5.37, comes in 11 high-shine shades, from patent black
to hot fuchsia. Our favourite? The vibrant Rouge Casino which looks equally
good on pale or dark skin.
Alternatively, sweep over your favourite polish with a high-shine topcoat,
such as Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamond Shine Top & Base Coat,
£7.95. But be warned - if you're going for the lacquered look, keep your
nails short and rounded to avoid shine overkill.
Why gloss is
boss: Shiny nails equal healthy nails, so a glossy polish will ooze
gorgeousness. Plus that extra layer of topcoat will help colour stay
chip-free for longer.
PATENT PEEPERS

Last
year saw clear gloss being swept across eyes, but summer '09 is all about
experimenting with high-shine smoky hues. When it comes to eye shine, think
glassy not all-out glossy. Paul & Joe Eye Gloss in 03, £14 (above),
gives a wet-look effect without stickiness - important when the temperature
starts to soar. Alternatively, use a creamy eyeshadow in an oh-so-now pewter
hue, such as Illamasqua Cream Eye Shadow in Thief, £13.70. Finish with a dab
of clear lipgloss in the centre of the lid to catch the light.
Why
gloss is boss: Dull powder eyeshadows can accentuate fine lines and
under-eye bags, but high-shine textures catch the light and detract
attention from those unflattering creases.

LACQUERED LIPS
Forget
your trusty old clear gloss, it's time to crank up the shine with stand-out
colours, such as fuchsia, bubblegum pink and coral. New Lancôme Laque Fever
Lipshine in Lancôme Rose, £17, lacquers lips with uber-reflective colour. Or
for shine-on-a-shoestring, try Elf Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF15 in Honey Do,
£1.50. If traditional glosses aren't your thing, get your fix with the new
wave of gloss-effect lipsticks instead. We love Estée Lauder Pure Color
Gloss Stick in Orange Poppy, £14.68 (right).
Why gloss is
boss: Unlike matte textures, which can flatten the lip, glosses give the
illusion of a plumper pout.
CHEEK SHEEN

This
trend is glossy not greasy, so don't be tempted to smear a tub of Vaseline
across your cheekbones. Instead, choose a creamy cheek highlighter like
Benefit Moon Beam, £15.50 (right). When it comes to base, try a
light-reflecting mineral foundation such as Collection 2000 Perfecting
Minerals, £4.99.
Why gloss is boss: Dabbing it on your
cheekbones gives instant definition.
TIPS
DO apply
gloss-effect make-up in a natural light so you can see exactly how much
you're putting on, and where.
DON'T go over the
top. Stick to a maximum of two glossy looks at any one time. Our favourite
combo is high-shine eyes and cheeks.
