Live: Groove Armada | Warehouse Project, Manchester | Gig review

Live: Groove Armada

Verdict: ****

Warehouse Project, Manchester

After over a decade of blasting out rump-shaking tunes, there are few better candidates to play a rave-style gig in the capital city of warehouse parties.

However, tonight is more about forward-thinking then reminiscing for the big beat bods. The duo move from behind the decks to play guitars, debut new material and unveil new singer Saint Saviour.

The diminutive diva is a cross between Beth Ditto's soulful pipes and Robyn's pixie look, ensuring that the tunes from next year's new album Black Light - such as the gossamer electro of Not Forgotten - are as impressive as their retina-burning light show.

However, as stylish as their new material is, tonight's throng are here for the hits - and Superstylin' and Song 4 Mutya duly take the roof off.
