Who needs Strictly Come Dancing when you can have Daniel Merriweather to teach you a two-step that would impress Arlene Phi... sorry, Alesha DIxon?
Halfway through a rousing set, Merriweather, who patiently took seven years to release his first proper album, has hundreds of people rocking from side to side - not bad for a few seconds' tutorial.
It comes after his only mis-step of the night, anti-war song For Your Money, where a big section of the audience's interest wavers. It doesn't matter much, as the soulful Merriweather manages what many of his peers can't, by making the large club seem intimate and personal.
It 's odd that, despite his Love And War album reaching No 2, he still seems to be a hidden secret. With hits Change, Red and Stop Me being ecstactically received, you get the impression his fans wouldn't have it any other way.
