But now the politically aware, outspoken rapper's not so sure.
He told Rated he's as gobsmacked as the rest of us over the expenses scandal-and declares he won't be running for Parliament anytime soon.
"It seems a dirty business," said Dizzee. "You can start out wanting to do right by the world, but you get sucked into fighting a losing battle.
"Mind you, it'd be a good way to get a swimming pool and a big old TV paid for!"
The title of Dizzee's new single-Bonkers-sums up the state of our politicians. And it should give him his second chart-topper since reaching No 1 last summer with Dance Wiv Me. But Dizzee insists music isn't the only thing he's good at-he's an expert at pulling girls too
The star has now settled down with a new love-but admits he happily took advantage of women who threw themselves at him.
"I can tell if a woman's only into me because I'm famous," Dizzee told Rated. "But sometimes I don't care-I just want a ****!" The 24-year-old rapper-real name Dylan Mills-likes women who match him for confidence.
"I like strong women," he says. "Sometimes they are too strong for me-they give me the runaround. But I like that. I like the chase."
He reveals his dream girl is actress Selma Hayek. "She's so confident," he drools. "Just from the way she is in films, you can tell she's a strong woman."
He breaks out into a big grin, joking: "And she's got big ****." Dizzee reckons he could always get a girl into bed, even when he was an unknown musician growing up in Bow, East London.
"I don't need to be famous to get a girl," he says. "I've always been like this! I've put the hours into charming women for a looong time.
"I'm obsessed by music and I'm obsessed by sex."
Since winning the Mercury Prize with his debut album Boy In Da Corner in 2004 when he was just 18, Dizzee has grown from being an underground rapper into a fully-fledged star, cemented when he appeared with Tom Hanks on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross a fortnight ago.
"If I get that famous, I want to treat people like Tom does," enthuses Dizzee. "He speaks to people just the same, whoever they are, and he's a funny guy.
His other notable TV appearance was on BBC2's Newsnight the night Barack Obama became US President.
Host Jeremy Paxman sneeringly called Dizzee "Mr Rascal" when asking him his views on British politics.
The memorable encounter , which ended with Dizzee yelling "Dizzee Rascal for Prime Minister!", became a huge hit on YouTube.
"A lot of people thought 'What's this stupid rapper doing on a proper news show?'," laughs Dizzee.
"The people who really know my music can tell I'm just having a laugh with it all."
But Dizzee is determined to do his bit for Britain with his new album Tongue N Cheek, released in September. He hopes it'll get Britain dancing its way out of the credit crunch.
"It's the happiest album I've done," he says. "It's really colourful, really dancey. People want happy music when everything else has gone s***.
Dizzee's new single Bonkers is out now.
