Review: Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games

SNOW doubt about it - these two are all white.

Welcome to the winter wonderland of Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games.

Following on from the hugely successful M & S At The Olympic Games (10 million copies sold), SEGA return for this (ice) cool workout on the Wii and DS.

And how refreshing to see the Wii Balance Board used for something other than a plastic yoga mat. You and the family can pick from a variety of characters from the world of Mario & Sonic.

There's a wide range of events to choose from too. Speed skating involves plenty of timed shaking of the Wii-mote and Nunchuck while figure skating needs a lot of skill too.

Bobsleigh is a great co-op event as you lean in and out of corners. Or you can lie face-first on the Balance Board and enjoy the luge. As well as Festival Mode, where you can enjoy the full Winter Olympic experience, there's also Dream Events.

This is where the fun snowballs into an outright riot. Dream Snowball Fight does exactly what it says on the tin but the gold medal has to go to Dream Alpine.

This is Mario Kart on ice - pure heaven for speed fans and red-turtle-firing nuts. You race down hill (on one of Vancouver's real-life slopes) against a pal and complete mid-air jumps, dodge Dr Eggman's robots and pick up little surprises to stop your opponent in their tracks.

Whether playing alone or with friends, this colourful and exciting title is perfect for the Wii.

With its simple controls, Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games is a breeze to work.

This will easily be one of the biggest games out there this Christmas - so get your skates on and go buy it now!
