DVDS OF THE WEEK

SON OF RAMBOW (12A ****)—Two schoolboys make a home movie version of Rambo complete with scarecrows, flying dogs and a totally bamboozled Eric Sykes in this fantastic British comedy. Extras include an amusingly rambling commentary from the director, producer and two young leads.

IN BRUGES (18 ****)—GET over the initial shock of seeing Colin Farrell act well and there’s plenty more to enjoy in this foul-mouthed tale of two Irish gangsters keeping a low profile in the Belgian tourist town. Fun extras and the film gets better with repeated viewings.

[REC] (18 *****)—OVERSHADOWED by its Spanish horror stablemate The Orphanage, [REC]’s a very different but equally terrifying beast. It’s got the scariest ending since 1999’s The Blair Witch Project and a similar feel thanks to the handheld camerawork. A modern horror classic.
