Tenderness (15) | Stars Russell Crowe, Jon Foster, Sophie Traub, Russ and Laura Dern

Tenderness (15)

Verdict: You should try a little ***

GRITTY, bleak, and with the unmistakable whiff of sweat and vice. And that's just Russell Crowe's tash.

Tenderness is an indie crime drama/road movie in which Rusty plays a semi-retired cop on the trail of a teenage killer.

Rather than tell the story from the good guys' perspective, it follows the villain Eric Poole (Jon Foster) and his groupie (Sophie Traub). As a result, the big names (Russ and Laura Dern) are relegated to supporting roles.

But flipping the focus gives the film a fresh edge. And both the leads are fab-especially Sophie, who gets her damaged teen character spot on without any Hollyoaks foot-stamping.
