AS A wise man - well, David St Hubbins from Spinal Tap - once said: "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever."
And while you're watching Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, you can just about see that line - glinting in the distance, about 500 miles in the wrong direction.
And that, readers, is Michael Bay's latest film in a nutshell. Stupid and proud.
It's bigger. Badder. Boobier. And many other words beginning with B, including boneheadedly brilliant.
Here's the plot: Shia LaBeouf goes to college, some robots appear, two and a half hours of fighting, Megan Fox's cleavage, Egypt blows up, the end.
I'll have a full review on next week's film pages, where I'll be unpicking the postfeminist subtexts and discussing Megatron's latent homosexuality...or not.
But if you can't wait until then, rest assured if you enjoyed the original, as I did, you'll love the hell out of this.
