Nearly six months of post-production, with hundreds of graphic artists painstakingly crafting the most complex visual effects shots the world has ever seen . . .
And yet what's the one shot from Transformers that everyone remembers? Megan Fox in a sweaty orange vest top, hoiking up the bonnet of that clapped-out Camaro.
It's a classic cinema moment, which made thousands of male film fans worldwide shuffle back in their seats and shift the popcorn bucket lapwards.
But two years have passed since then. Another Transformers film has been made and another $200,000,000 have been spent. So how, pray tell, does director Michael Bay up the ante?
Simple. In her first scene, Megan, 23, straddles a motorbike in a pair of denim shorts so small you could fit them into a hamster's cheek.
"If Mike can make me look good in those shorts then I feel I'm doing OK," she laughs. "And it gives me an advantage because people don't expect anything from me. If I give any sort of performance at all, even a mediocre one, everyone will walk away saying: 'She did a great job.'"
But she DID do a great job.
Two summers ago, before the Autobots first took on the Decepticons in the blockbustiest blockbuster of the season, the world was largely unaware of the joys of Fox.
Growing up in rural Tennessee and Florida, she launched herself, aged 16, as the three words that every Tinseltown agent loves to hear: An actress-stroke-model.
And she is totally candid about how her looks smoothed her way into the film business.
"Hollywood is the most superficial thing you could possibly be a part of," she shrugs. "If I weren't attractive, I wouldn't be working at all."
But unlike the hordes of airheads trying to make it in Hollywood, Megan's got something extra: One hell of a personality. Refreshingly, she's not afraid to speak her mind-whether it's confessing to a lesbian fling with a Russian pole-dancer or . . . well, to be honest, that's good enough on its own.
"I made a decision not to be a bulls*** person, because this is a bulls*** industry," she says. And it hasn't hurt her so far. She's just finished horror comedy Jennifer's Body and is now filming Wild West action movie Jonah Hex alongside Josh Brolin.
She also turned down the chance to take over from Angelina Jolie in the planned Tomb Raider reboot. Megan says: "There have been a lot of films I've had to pass on, because I don't want people thinking I'm trying to emulate her."
She doesn't need to be the next Angelina -she's doing just fine as the current Megan. "If your idea of a role model is somebody who's going to preach to your kids that sex before marriage is wrong and cursing is wrong and women should be this and be that, then I'm not a role model," she says.
"But if you want your girls to feel strong and intelligent and be outspoken and fight for what they think is right, then I want to be that type of role model, yeah."
That's exactly what Megan is. A one-of-a- kind, acting-stroke-modelling, tough-talking, take- no-bulls*** action girl-who may well become the biggest female movie star of our time.
Oh yes. And she looks blimmin' incredible draped over that motorbike.
