DVDS OF THE WEEK

DEFIANCE (15): Solid World War II thriller based on a true story, starring Daniel Craig as the leader of a Jewish resistance movement which takes on the Nazis in the Polish wilderness. Great performances and decent special features.

BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA (U): Nowhere near as bad as you might think, this fluffy adventure about a pampered LA pooch on holiday in Mexico is decent family entertainment. But I'd love to see a sequel starring the gay pug.

SEVEN POUNDS (15): Idiotic film that tries to prove Will Smith can do serious drama but fails miserably. It's a thriller with a twist about a tax inspector who meddles with other people's lives to some mysterious purpose. Unintentional laughs can be had in the big romantic scene where Will fixes a girl's printer. Seriously.
