McClure, who has formed the band to make political songs, also branded the UK music industry "depressing".
The Sheffield singer, who's had hits with Reverend And The Makers, accused new
British musicians of being TOO SCARED to get political-but at the same time
even hit out at Bono and Bob Geldof.
He growled: "It's all very well Bono and Geldof picking easy causes like
Africa. Anyone can speak up over natural disasters and look nice. If they
really wanted to change the world, they'd have tackled Bush, Brown and Blair
on trickier political issues.
Mongrel, who feature members of Arctic Monkeys and Babyshambles, are about to release their thrilling new album Better Than Heavy.
But McClure reckons they won't get any coverage because they have two rising
British black singers, Mpho and Lowkey, in their line-up too.
The angry singer, 27, ranted: "Radio and music magazines are racist. The NME
is supposedly the voice of youth rebellion but, in 2006, all 52 of their
covers were of a white person. They won't put us on the front because there
are black people in Mongrel."
The one singer he does admire is Lily Allen, for putting anti-racist song F*** You on her new album, It's Not Me, It's You.
Lily knows where it's at," McClure told Rated.
"She's stuck her head above the parapet, not like the rest of the careerists
in British music. Why should I give a s*** if the British culture doesn't
appreciate me? With Leona Lewis at No 1 and Take That up for a Brit award,
I'd rather be an outsider!"
Mongrel's new single Hit Of The Morning Sun is out tomorrow. Their album is out on March 2.
