Let this sacrifice never be in vain

EVERY soldier's death is a tragedy, but to lose so many, just before Christmas, is heart-rending.

Five in a day. Five who, even in the deserts of Afghanistan and Iraq, should have been looking forward to Christmas as a special time.

Five British families who would have sent festive parcels, cards, letters full of hope and pride . . .

Letters that will never be answered. Parcels unopened. Cards unread.

One of the dead had been married less than six months. Another just over a year. His wife is carrying their unborn child. Who among us cannot share those loved ones' anguish?

There are many who will call for an end to our military involvement in these terrorist hell-holes.

We understand their grief and frustration but, respectfully, we believe they are wrong.

To pull out now, or any time soon, is to hand victory to the forces of evil. To keep retreating and retreating until, one day, we have to defend this country on our own shores.

To tell every parent of all the fallen: 'They died for nothing. We squandered their sacrifice'.

And to put at terrible risk every future Christmas for the free world.

A win for family values

However the energy giant seeks to justify secret pricing, our expose today reveals they are knowingly misleading and overcharging the public.

Once, we expected such shabby tactics from second-hand car dealers.

But not from a major company with almost 16 million customers that boasts of openness and integrity.

Incredibly, British Gas has the nerve to claim its customers, "do not always want the same things".

Yes they do . . . they want lower prices. TODAY.
