• DO shop around, as quotes vary drastically from insurer to insurer depending on your circumstances.
• DON'T be tempted to pay for hidden extras you don't need. Many insurers add optional legal cover against uninsured loss. This is fine if you want it but make sure you know what you're getting.
• DO give an accurate estimate of your annual mileage. Many people over- estimate - but premiums reduce if your mileage is lower.

DON'T over-insure against loss of no claims. If you have 70 per cent or more the chances are this will only reduce to around 60 per cent in the event of a single claim.
