EXCLUSIVE: Green Tories get 10mpg limo

As the party leader tries to reduce his carbon footprint by cycling to work, his Tory-led Kensington and Chelsea council has bought a gas-guzzling Bentley, the world's fastest four-door car, to ferry bosses to engagements.

The £115,000 saloon can do 195mph, but it gives just 10mpg and pumps out 423 grams of CO2 per kilometre—four times the emissions of a Toyota Prius.

Councillors have been branded "a bunch of hypocrites" for buying the Bentley after TELLING residents to give up their ‘Chelsea tractors', and THREATENING to make owners of 4x4s pay extra for parking permits.

They also support the Low Emissions Zone scheme that damages businesses by charging owners of high-polluting commercial vehicles up to £200 a day just for driving through the borough.

One resident fumed: "They could have bought a Prius or any number of less polluting cars, but they didn't because they're a bunch of hypocrites."

Another added: "A green car would have been far more appropriate. This makes a joke of Tory policies on the environment and must be very embarrassing to David Cameron."

Tony Bosworth, of Friends of The Earth, said: "This car is one of the biggest contributors to climate change of any of the cars on sale in the UK today.

"A more fuel-efficient car would not only be much less polluting but would also save taxpayers a fair bit in petrol bills."
