AMY BAILED
Cops quiz her over Blake case
By Douglas Wight & Phil Taylor
Singer Amy Winehouse has been released on police bail
after officers questioned her in connection with an alleged plot
to nobble her husband's GBH trial, as we exclusively revealed
on Sunday.
The diva, 24, was arrested when she went to a police station in
east London.
She was not charged but has to return to the station in early
March pending further inquiries.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "A 24-year-old woman has
been bailed to return to an east London police station on a date
in early March pending further inquiries."
She was earlier arrested "by appointment" in connection
with an investigation into perverting the course of justice, police
said.
A spokesman for Winehouse said: "She attended a police station
voluntarily and at a pre-agreed time.
"She was arrested but that is common practice for someone
being interviewed by police. There have been no charges and she
has been released."
Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is remanded in custody
on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation
to an assault case.
Fielder-Civil, 25, and Michael Brown are accused of assaulting
James King, the landlord of Macbeth's public house in Hoxton,
east London, on June 20 last year.
It is alleged that they later conspired to pervert the course
of justice by offering Mr King a significant amount of money to
withdraw his allegation and leave the country.
Two other men also facing the same charge are Anthony Kelly, 25,
from Chalk Farm, north west London, and James King, 36, from Risley,
Derbyshire.
All four have been remanded in custody until January 18 for a
plea and directions hearing with a trial date pencilled in for
June.
Fielder-Civil and Brown's trial was adjourned after they were
accused of the conspiracy charge.
Winehouse cancelled her remaining UK tour dates following her
husband's arrest after giving several shambolic performances.
It was announced earlier this month that she had been nominated
for six Grammy awards.
The US awards recognise the cream of the music industry.
AMY JAIL HELL
POLICE are to quiz troubled rock star Amy Winehouse over an alleged
trial-rigging plot.
The 24-year-old singer must give fingerprints and DNA samples
and will be questioned under caution.
She could face LIFE in jail if cops link her to the suspected
conspiracy to clear husband Blake Fielder-Civil on a GBH charge.
A Scotland Yard source said: "This is a very significant
development."
Frightened Amy has vowed to commit SUICIDE if she is sentenced
to a long term in prison.
As the troubled star faces the prospect of a tough police grilling
over the alleged £200,000 plot to fix husband Blake Fielder-Civil's
assault trial, a close friend revealed: "Amy's had her problems
but she's really terrified this time. She's teetering on the brink.
"She's already hatched a suicide pact with Blake. If they're
both handed lengthy jail sentences she's determined they'll
end it together rather than face years apart.
"She can't live without Blake. Her family are worried sick."
Amy has been told to present herself to detectives for questioning
this week. She is likely to be quizzed under caution.
A police source said: "This is a very significant development
in the investigation."

The distraught diva will be finger-printed and required to give
DNA samples because police believe they could link her to crucial
documents at the heart of their investigation into an alleged conspiracy
to pervert the course of justice—a crime that can carry a LIFE sentence.
Twist
If she fails to show up she faces the humiliation of a raid on
her new home in Bow, east London, and formal arrest.
The whole drama grew out of an ugly brawl at the Macbeth pub
in Hoxton, east London, in June last year.
Barman
James King, 36, was severely injured, needing metal plates to
repair his face.
Then Blake and his friend Michael Brown, both 25, were charged
with grievous bodily harm.
This sensational new twist involving Amy follows detailed examination
of papers seized after the arrests.
King was said to have been offered the massive £200,000 bribe
to change his story—PLUS an extra £10,000 for him to flit to
Spain and lie low until the case collapsed.
Evidence concerning Amy was allegedly found when detectives smashed
their way into her other home in Camden, north London, last month.
They seized mobile phone records, bank details and computer software.
Last week cops searched files at the offices of the star's accountants,
the prestigious Mayfair-based firm Smallfield Cody, in an attempt
to track all the comings and goings of her money.
There is no suggestion that anyone at the accountants is involved
in any wrong-doing.
Initially it was believed Amy was only being treated as a witness
in the investigation.
But the News of the World has learned her status
may change to ‘suspect' this week during the dramatic showdown
with police.
Amy's solicitors have been informed of the latest developments
and the star was said to be "shattered" when she heard the news.
But she has no option but to co-operate fully.
A source said: "When police received their initial information
the inquiry centred on Blake, his friend Brown and the original
victim in the case. But after seizing a number of documents, it
seems there is forensic evidence that may tie Amy directly to
the plot.

"When you think about it, as soon as the figure of £200,000 emerged,
the finger of suspicion started to point in her direction. How
could Blake, who does precious little for a living, be expected
to come up with that kind of money?
"And the fact officers also visited the offices of her accountants—a
respected firm who've handled Amy's books for years and represent
quite a few musicians—shows that they want to be able to show
exactly where her money goes and to whom. They want to account
for every penny."
It is believed that substantial sums of cash-at least £5,000-were
paid out before the alleged plot was discovered.
Blake
and Brown's GBH trial was due to be held last month. But this
is now delayed after the pair were charged—along with King and
another man, 25-year-old Anthony Kelly—with the suspected conpiracy
and remanded in custody.
Ironically a close friend insisted that life behind bars in Pentonville
had been GOOD for Blake.
The source said: "It's meant that he's gone cold turkey, kicked
the drugs and is thriving without the distractions of his bizarre
life with Amy.
"But she's not tough enough to handle that. She's incredibly
fragile at the moment and there's a good chance that this could
finish her off. She's convinced that jail will kill her.
She's still battling crack and heroin and is just not strong enough
to tackle prison life. She's seen Blake in there over the past
few weeks and knows she couldn't cope with that.
"The police know this too and they're handling her as sensitively
as they can. But there will come a point when she has to face
the music like anyone else."
Our revelations are another pressure on the super-talented 24-year-old—currently
nominated for an incredible six Grammy awards in America. In recent
weeks she has been pictured in a daze or distraught, wandering
London's streets in the early hours while half-dressed.
Last month she cancelled a major tour because she was not strong
enough to continue while Blake was in custody. But a pal told
us yesterday: "All the recent battles Amy's had with heroin and
crack addiction are nothing compared to what she's up against
now with the law."

Her family are already at loggerheads with her in-laws over her
relationship with Blake.
This latest news will drive a further wedge between them. The
singer's mum Janis has said she is glad Blake is in jail and blamed
him for turning her daughter on to class A drugs.
But in an exclusive interview with the News of the World,
Blake's mum Georgette said she hoped Blake and Amy NEVER get back
together.
Furious Georgette raged: "That will be over my dead body. He
CAN'T go back to her."
Breaking down in tears she sobbed: "I only care about my son.
I'd sell my soul to the devil to have him back. That's how I
feel. I'm bashing my head. I just want to hold him."
Georgette, 42, and her husband, headteacher Giles, are livid
that Janis has put all the blame on Blake for Amy's drug problems.
Georgette insisted: "Giles and I have always maintained it's
a joint problem. It's wrong to blame Blake for everything she
does."
At the family home in Newark, Notts, she told how she is convinced
her son is better off behind bars without his wayward wife.
She says he is clean from drugs, exercising, reading and finally
accepting responsibility for his own behaviour. "Blake's doing
beautifully," she said.
Amy, however, is now one step even closer to the brink.
